Our cattle spend their lives on open mountain pasture, never in confinement, never in a feedlot. They are Hereford, Red and Black Angus and South Devon: English breeds chosen for marbling, flavour and temperament. W.E. Shipley pioneered Hereford farming in North Carolina, bringing the first registered stock to the state, and we have raised these breeds for roughly 150 years.
They are never given growth hormones or steroids, and never fed antibiotics to promote growth. Their diet is grass and forage from our own pastures, supplemented with a custom blend developed with experts from the NC State College of Agriculture, which is where the marbling and the flavour come from.
Proper Meats Ground Beef is our everyday grind: the same cattle, the same pastures, ground fresh. Our Signature line is the same beef, aged before grinding for a deeper flavour.
Raised on pasture in Western North Carolina and the Appalachian Mountains, farmed with "no shortcuts". Ships from our farm to most of the East Coast in two business days or less.
